New Musicals Mixtape

January 22, 2024

Chelsea Factory

Part of Prospect’s IGNITE Series, a concert initiative featuring new voices shaping tomorrow’s musical theater, the New Musicals Mixtape features new musicals written by members of the Latiné Musical Theatre Lab’s Julia de Burgos Cohort. The Latiné Musical Theatre Lab hosted 6 teams of writers in Fall 2023, offering mentorship and support for Latiné writers to develop their shows. Over three months, the cohort met bi-weekly, facilitated by Rose Van Dyne and Amelia Johnson, creating a dynamic space for collaboration, creativity, and growth. New Musicals Mixtape featured songs from the six work-in-progress musicals, alongside interviews with the musicals’ writing teams.

November 21, 2024

Peter Norton Symphony Space

A partnership between Prospect’s “IGNITE” Series (a concert initiative featuring new voices shaping tomorrow’s musical theater) and the National Asian Artist Project’s “Discover: New Musicals”, MĀYĀ - The Musical follows Maya Mehta, an aspiring poet, torn between duty to her family and the passionate ideals of her freedom-fighting friends in the Indian Independence Movement. Through a contemporary score that fuses Indian classical music with Western pop, MĀYĀ is the story of how one poet, one dreamer, one person can make a lasting mark on a movement.
