When matriarch Bernarda Alba’s second husband passes, she places an eight-year mourning period on the entirety of her household, prohibiting all from being romantically involved with anyone, including her five daughters, ages 20-39. This period of mourning causes tension in the family to grow as they all manage their grief, ricocheting into relationship issues that pit the family members against one another.
