59E59 Residency, IGNITE Series @ Times Center & More

2017

Illyria

April 22-23, 2017
West End Theatre

This Actor-Musician Workshop Staging of Illyria follows Viola, who disguises herself as her twin brother after finding herself shipwrecked and alone on the shores of a land where 'clarity's a rarity, and madness rules.' Entering the service of Duke Orsino, she is quickly drawn in to a tangle of unrequited love with her new master and the mournful Lady Olivia. Meanwhile, Olivia's ne'er-do-well uncle and maid do their best to bring mirth back to the household. Cakes and ale abound and mistaken identity reigns in this gender-bending adventure.

WORLD VIEWS

July 8, 2017

The Times Center

Through WORLD VIEWS, nine writing teams come together to create original short musicals inspired by works of visual art on display in NYC museums, each of which offers a window into a unique, imaginative world. Paintings by artists including Marc Chagall, Clementine Hunter, René Magritte, and Georgia O'Keeffe evoke songs and stories crafted through Prospect’s annual musical theater lab process of writing and development, culminating in this showcase.

The Mad Ones

November 7-December 17, 2017
59E59 Theatres, Theatre A

Mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved...
The NYC premiere of The Mad Ones followed Samantha Brown as she balances on the edge of her future, car keys in hand.  As she sits in the driver's seat, she faces a choice: will she follow in her mother's footsteps, or take the dare of her impetuous best friend and chart a new path?  This contemporary and compelling score from one of NYC's most exciting new songwriting teams immerses audiences in the complex inner life of a young woman on the brink of change. When every choice feels like life and death, how do you turn the key?
