MONUMENT

February 3, 2018
The Times Center

A collection of new mini-musicals in concert, the culmination of Prospect's 2018 Musical Theater Lab. The company's 12th lab performance hosts eight writing teams who come together to create original short musicals inspired by monuments around New York City: including the Joan of Arc statue in Riverside Park, the Simon Bolivar monument in Central Park, the Independence Flagpole in Union Square, the Postcards 9/11 sculpture in Staten Island, the Prison Ship Martyrs' monument in Fort Greene Park, The Rocket Thrower sculpture in Flushing Meadows Park, the Stonewall National Monument, and the Harriet Tubman Memorial. These public sites evoke songs and stories crafted through the six-week lab process of writing and development.

One Thousand Nights and One Day

April 4-29, 2018

A.R.T./New York Theatres, Mezzanine Theatre

There is only one story... and its Author and Hero is Us.

In mythic Persia, a daring young woman spins tales to save the kingdom and her life. In modern-day New York, a Jewish man and Palestinian woman fight to find love in a fractured world.  The world premiere musical, adapted from Jason Grote's critically-acclaimed play 1001, reinvents The Arabian Nights, colliding the contemporary and the ancient.  Through a genre-bending score, it questions past and present images of the Middle East, exploring the power of story in our everyday lives.
